Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Review composite product design and estimate feedstock (raw material) quantity required
  • Review composite product design geometry, material specification, and quality standard
  • Determine product suitability for manual or automatic production techniques
  • Identify most efficient raw materials for the production of the composite product
  • Estimate amount of feedstock required to cover production requirement and waste provision
  • Select appropriate material cost modelling method
  • Cost estimated feedstock requirement
  • Estimate production and scrap losses during each stage of production
  • Cost total waste and waste for each production stage
  • Rank production stages from highest to lowest cost in terms of waste volume and cost

Element: Test material cost model
  • Test model through prototyping for new products or processes
  • Research current state of material use and waste reporting through records analysis, walk through of workstations and consultations with employees
  • Determine if additional variables and waste stream data collection points are required to be included in material cost model
  • Finalise material cost model based on testing and research

Element: Use material cost model to establish efficiency improvement goals
  • Use finalised material cost model to establish baseline data for material efficiency plan
  • Establish specific, measurable and achievable goals for material efficiency improvements for each production stage
  • Develop a record keeping system and standard operating procedures (SOP) system to track feedstock requisition and goal achievement for material costs, material usage, waste and scrap

Element: Implement materials efficiency improvements
  • Develop implementation strategy for each production stage material efficiency goal
  • Select criteria to review strategies and prioritise for implementation
  • Establish responsibilities, milestones and timelines for stages selected for implementation
  • Commence implementation of materials efficiency strategies for selected production stages including monitoring and reporting
  • Review results and establish continuous improvement processes for each material efficiency strategies

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
